Lovebird Cereal is a breakfast cereal company started by Parker, a founder who once worked in the big food industry. After his daughter was born, he felt he had a responsibility to rise above his own autoimmune disease and give his family better food. He left his corporate job to clean up cereal so his daughter would not grow up eating the same junk he did, and cereal, which they both love, became the first product.
The company's approach is to use real, whole food ingredients in close to their natural form. Lovebird describes its cereals as organic and gluten-free, and it avoids refined sugars, artificial dyes, synthetic pesticides, seed oils and ingredients shoppers cannot recognize. Parker's food philosophy is simple: eat whole foods, pay attention to how food makes you feel, and when you do reach for convenience foods, choose clean ones and limit inflammatory ingredients.
The range includes cinnamon, cocoa, fruity, honey and unsweetened cereals, plus protein cereals and protein granolas. Giving is part of the business: Lovebird donates 20 percent of net profit from all its products to nonprofits working on programs and research to fight pediatric cancer, a cause that gets only a small share of federal cancer research funding.
